Jo & Matt // Anniversary Film Photography

JO & MATT

35mm Kodak Portra 400

I’ve wanted to do an all-film shoot for about three summers now, without the crutch of my digital cameras or as much editing as I want on the backend. Things finally aligned & I was able to have my friends Jo & Matt model for me while conveniently getting some documentation of their 1 year wedding anniversary! Jo Johnson was actually our wedding & engagement photographer & has been a huge help & business mentor through her own endeavors with photography, business-education, & finances.

I approached this shoot with more intention on the creative aspect than I usually do for Engagement Experiences. I typically go in with some vague inspiration & really pull it together in the moment while learning more about the couple & blending that with the environments we find ourselves in. For Jo & Matt I centered everything around the words “Timeless & Earthy.” Because of the nature of film, I don’t have thousands of clicks to burn through hoping I got it right a few times. Jo & Matt were beyond patient with me so that we could settle into the simplicity of each moment until it felt just right.

I’m beyond excited about the results given that I only shot two rolls of film & were able to deliver over 72 photos thanks to the option of converting several to black & white. I certainly feel that my vision was completely successful in creating photos that exist outside of time or place in a way that also captures exactly who they are at this time in their life.
